Plusnet broadband deals

Plusnet is one of the cheapest broadband providers in the UK, offering budget-friendly broadband deals on high-speed fibre internet and low set-up costs for new Plusnet customers. All its internet packages come with unlimited downloads, so you’ll never have to worry about how much you can use Wi-Fi.

Like most broadband providers, Plusnet deals also include line rental. This gives you the advantage of easily adding a phone package to your plan if you like. The price of the phone line is already included in the total price, so there won’t be an added charge for this service. Plusnet offers other add-ons, including TV and mobile phone add-ons, and Plusnet broadband customers get discounts and offers on its other services.

This ISP (internet service provider) offers a simple selection of broadband packages with varied average download speeds ranging from ADSL to fibre broadband. Its offer emphasises simplicity, affordability, and great customer service. The section below offers a quick and easy run-down of the broadband deals you can choose from at Plusnet.

Plusnet broadband packages

Choose between standard or fibre broadband with a contract length of either 12 or 18 months. Plusnet’s 18-month contracts offer a cheaper monthly cost but require a longer commitment. The provider currently offers three packages, with faster broadband speeds generally coming at a higher monthly cost. Take a look at the deals on offer below:

Unlimited Broadband

Plusnet Unlimited Broadband provides entry-level ADSL broadband, with an average download speed of 10Mbps and average upload speeds of around 1.5Mbps. These broadband speeds are standard for ADSL, which is limited by the use of copper cables to transfer data. If you’re looking for faster download speeds, keep scrolling to find the provider’s fibre broadband deals.

Standard broadband is not for everyone, but it could be adequate for a small household with one or two users browsing and sending emails. This how much you can expect to pay for Plusnet Unlimited Broadband:

Package Minimum term Activation fee Monthly cost Extras
Unlimited Broadband 12-month contract £5 £22.99 Line rental included
Unlimited Broadband 18-month contract £0 £19.99 Line rental included

The prices displayed above are Plusnet’s standard prices for its unlimited broadband deal and are accurate at the time of writing. Currently, the 18-month internet package doesn’t require a set-up cost, but this offer ends soon. Once the offer ends, there will be a £5 charge. Unlimited Fibre

Unlimited Fibre is an FTTC (fibre to the cabinet) offer, with average download speeds of 36Mbps and upload speeds of 8Mbps. An FTTC connection is fibre broadband that works by using a combination of fibre-optic and copper cables to deliver faster download speeds. This broadband deal is appropriate for a medium-sized family. Take a look at the offers available:

Package Minimum term Activation fee Monthly cost Extras
Unlimited Fibre 12-month contract £10 £25.99 Line rental included
Unlimited Fibre 18-month contract £0 £22.99 Line rental included

The prices displayed above are Plusnet’s standard prices for the Unlimited Fibre broadband and are accurate at the time of writing. Currently, the 18-month internet package doesn’t require a set-up cost, but this offer ends soon. Once the offer ends, there will be a £5 charge. Unlimited Fibre Extra

The Unlimited Fibre Extra package is also an FTTC deal, with superfast average download speeds of 66Mbps and upload speeds of 15Mbps. With this deal, you can connect multiple devices to the router at the same time without having to worry about delays. Choose from the following deals:

Package Minimum term Activation fee Monthly cost Extras
Unlimited Fibre Extra 12-month contract £10 £27.99 Line rental included
Unlimited Fibre Extra 18-month contract £0 £24.99 Line rental included

The prices displayed above are Plusnet’s standard prices for the Unlimited Fibre Extra Broadband and are accurate at the time of writing. Currently, the 18-month internet package doesn’t require any set-up costs, but this offer ends soon. Once the offer ends, there will be a £5 charge. Full fibre

Plusnet doesn’t offer a fibre to the premises (FTTP), or full-fibre connection at the time of writing, but it does plan to offer this by the end of 2022. FTTP broadband usually starts at 100Mbps and can reach anywhere up to 1,000Mbps, which is excellent for gaming and streaming in 4K on multiple devices. If you’re looking for full-fibre broadband, consider the following providers, which specialise in this type of internet connection:

  • Hyperoptic
  • Gigaclear
  • TalkTalk
  • Virgin Media
  • Zen Internet

You can get a quote from Plusnet or one of the above providers using our comparison tool.

Wireless vs ethernet

There are two ways you can connect devices to your router: with a wireless connection (Wi-Fi) or with an ethernet cable. A wireless connection, also known as Wi-Fi, transmits information from your router to your devices without the need for a cable. Wireless broadband is convenient because you can move around the house freely without the restriction of a cable.

While wireless internet is convenient, it won’t allow you to experience the maximum download speeds and average upload speeds possible for your package. Wi-Fi is less stable and reliable than an ethernet connection. To get the most out of your deal, use an ethernet cable where possible.

Plusnet add-ons

Broadband and phone packages

Combine any 18-month Plusnet broadband package with a Plusnet call plan of your choice. There are two phone packages to choose from:

Unlimited UK and mobile calls

Use your home phone any time to make as many calls as you want. You might decide to combine this call plan with Plusnet broadband if you’re a frequent caller. Paying for a phone plan with inclusive calls is cheaper than a pay-as-you-go tariff if you use the phone on a daily basis. Check out how much you can expect to pay when you combine your Plusnet broadband with this call package:

Package Minimum term Monthly cost
Unlimited broadband 18-month contract £29.40
Unlimited Fibre 18-month contract £32.40
Fibre Extra 18-month contract £34.40

Evening and weekend UK and mobile calls

Use your landline in the evening and on the weekend to make as many calls as you like. This call plan is ideal if you make most of your calls at peak hours. The following table shows how much will cost to combine this call plan with your Plusnet broadband deal:

Package Minimum term Monthly cost
Unlimited broadband 18-month contract £25.22
Unlimited Fibre 18-month contract £28.22
Fibre Extra 18-month contract £30.22

Plusnet TV add-ons

Plusnet customers can enjoy exclusive deals on TV packages with YouView and BT Sport. Plusnet TV add-ons are affordable, with its YouView plan costing around £5 a month when taken out with Unlimited Fibre or Unlimited Fibre Extra on an 18-month contract.

You can combine YouView with another broadband provider’s router but you won’t get any support setting it up. The YouView box includes Freeview channels and on-demand TV, with the addition of BT Sport Lite. You can also add additional channels to your box for an extra monthly charge:

  • Kids entertainment: £3 a month
  • HD: £3 a month
  • Entertainment Plus: £3 a month
  • BT Sport: from £17.15 a month

BT Sport

Plusnet offers a standalone BT Sport subscription that requires neither the support of the YouView box nor Plusnet broadband. The BT Sport add-on includes BT Sport 1, BT Sport 2, BT Sport 3, BT Sport ESPN and Box Nation. There are three different subscriptions to choose from:

  • BT Sport App: Watch sport wherever you are with the BT Sport app. You can cast it to your TV using the Google Chromecast or a similar device. You can also get the app on your tablet, PlayStation, Xbox, Apple TV or Samsung TV, so you’ve got the option of watching it on screens of any size. This subscription costs £17.15 a month.
  • BT Sport: Enjoy BT Sport for £17.15 when you already have Sky TV and Plusnet Broadband. You just add BT Sport to your Sky Box and watch it on the big screen. You also benefit from the BT Sport app with this TV package.
  • BT Sport HD: If you’ve got a Sky HD and an HD TV, you can get the BT Sport HD package. This subscription lets you watch sport in HD, making it more expensive than the standard plan, costing £20.01 a month.

Plusnet Mobile

Plusnet offers cheap SIM-only deals with unlimited minutes, unlimited texts and the data allowance of your choice. If you’re already a Plusnet broadband customer, you get an extra 2GB of data every month with Plusnet Mobile. Plusnet Mobile is flexible and commitment-free, with all deals consisting of a 30-day rolling contract. This means you can cancel your plan whenever you want, but be aware that there’s a 30-day notice period. You can also take advantage of inclusive EU roaming and data bolt-ons. Here are some Plusnet Mobile SIM deals you can enjoy as a Plusnet Broadband customer:

  • 6GB: £6
  • 12GB: £7
  • 22GB: £9
  • 52GB: £15

Keep in mind that this is the offer you get as a Plusnet broadband customer. If you’re not a broadband customer, you’ll receive 2GB of data less on all deals mentioned above. Prices are accurate at the time of writing. Check the provider’s official website to find out more information about its SIM-only deals.

Plusnet routers

Depending on the broadband package you opt for, you’ll enjoy one of the routers mentioned below:

Hub Zero router

The Hub Zero router is the most basic wireless router on offer and is only supplied with ADSL broadband. This router doesn’t have the technology to supply the fastest Wi-Fi speeds, with the average speed reaching just 10Mbps, just enough to support Plusnet Unlimited Broadband.

Hub One router

The Hub One router is the former router included with the provider’s fibre deals. New customers will now automatically receive the Hub Two with Plusnet Fibre Broadband.

Hub Two router

The Hub Two is Plusnet’s newest router and is included with Fibre Broadband and Fibre Extra packages. The Hub Two offers:

  • More reliability
  • Stronger Wi-Fi connection
  • Excellent in-home performance
  • Ability to connect multiple devices at once
  • Easy one-off set up.
  • Dual-band

This router also supports an ADSL2 connection, which usually has an average speed of 24Mbps.

Plusnet Offers

Plusnet perks and extras

Plusnet Rewards

Plusnet offers rewards to customers as an incentive for them to sign up. Occasionally, new customers can get cashback, Amazon gift cards, or points on its Plusnet Reward Card. With a Plusnet Rewards Card, you can accumulate points and get money-off at high-street stores. You can earn points when you sign up for a new service, when you upgrade or when you refer a friend to a service. Third-party providers such as Carphone Warehouse can also offer rewards when you sign up for your Plusnet service through them, and the gift will still be awarded by Plusnet.

If you find your deal through a cashback website, you’ll only receive a reward from the third party. Be aware that you have two months to claim your Plusnet Reward from the time Plusnet sends you the email. If you don’t do so, it will expire and you’ll no longer be able to claim it.

Plusnet Protect

Plusnet Protect is an anti-virus and anti-malware protection software that helps protect your personal data online. Plusnet Protect can protect:

  • Online identity
  • Financial details
  • Documents

Plusnet Safeguard

Plusnet Safeguard helps protect your family with the addition of parental controls. With parental controls, you can monitor the TV and online content to which your children have access. Plusnet guides you on how you can protect your kids’ online presence and how to explore the internet with them to make it a safer place.

Refer a friend

Every time you refer a friend to a Plusnet service, £1.25 is knocked off the monthly cost of your broadband plan. You can refer as many friends as you want, so, in theory, Plusnet could end up owing you money. Frequently asked questions

Plusnet is owned by BT but it doesn’t share many similarities in terms of the broadband packages it offers. Its network is managed by Openreach, like most UK providers, but its customer service is operated independently in the UK.

Yes, all Plusnet broadband packages include line rental. If you’re looking for broadband without line rental, Virgin Media is the only major UK-based broadband provider offering a broadband-only deal without the need for a phone line, as it doesn’t use the Openreach network.

Plusnet Fibre starts at an average speed of 36Mbps and can reach up to 66Mbps.

No, Plusnet doesn’t offer full-fibre, or fibre-to-the-premises (FTTP) broadband. Full-fibre typically delivers an average speed of 100Mbps upwards.

The speed you need depends on the type of tasks you perform online and the size of your household. Medium-sized households with multiple devices should opt for a Plusnet Fibre Extra package to guarantee a quick and reliable internet connection.
