A man has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder over a drive-by shooting outside a church in Euston which left a seven-year-old girl in a critical condition.

Police said the 22-year-old man was arrested after a car was stopped in Cricklewood Lane, Barnet, shortly before 4pm on Sunday. He has been taken into custody.

The gunman allegedly opened fire on a memorial service outside St Aloysius R.C. Church near Euston station around 1.30pm on Saturday afternoon.

Eyewitnesses claimed the gunman fired on mourners while they were paying their respects to Fresia Calderon, 50, and her daughter, Sara Sanchez, 20, who died last November.

Officers rushed to the scene, along with medics from the London Ambulance Service and London’s Air Ambulance.

In a statement on Monday, police said the seven-year-old girl remained in hospital in a serious but stable condition.

Four other women – aged 21, 41, 48 and 54 – suffered non-life-threatening injuries and were taken to a London hospital. A 12-year-old girl also suffered a "minor leg injury".
