Mia Tindall has clearly inherited her family’s love of horse racing – and that of her great-grandmother, the late Queen Elizabeth II, in particular.

Clutching what appeared to be a betting slip, the eldest daughter of Zara and Mike Tindall, watched excitedly at Cheltenham Racecourse as the New Year’s Day events got under way.

At one point she was spotted gesticulating wildly as the horses galloped towards the finishing line, recalling her great-grandmother’s enthusiastic appearances at racecourses around the country during her reign.

The late Queen was known for her love of the sport and encyclopaedic knowledge of breeding and training, and was frequently photographed urging her horses on to victory.

Zara, the daughter of Princess Anne, appeared at the event in an elegant navy winter coat from The Fold, cinched at the waist, which she teamed with a burgundy Lalage Beaumont bag and a hat from Somerset Millinery.

Mia, eight, who was dressed in a grey coat with brown boots, appeared to share her mother’s sense of style, applying lip gloss before heading to the stands with her four-year-old sister, Lena.

During the royal family’s walk from church at Sandringham on Christmas Day, Mia was seen playfully poking Prince George, nine, in the back as she walked past him while he greeted well-wishers with his parents.

Her father has revealed he has signed up to the Doddie Aid charity challenge and urged others to take part in the initiative, set up by his friend the late Doddie Weir, to raise money to fund research into Motor Neurone Disease. Weir, who died in November aged 52, had been diagnosed with the condition in 2016.
