Bet of the day
Our bet of the day for Sunday is priced at 23/20

The weekend is here and there’s a full programme of football across England and Scotland, including a Manchester derby at Old Trafford on Saturday and Sunday’s north London derby at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

Our bets of the day for the weekend come from that showdown between Spurs and Arsenal plus Leeds United’s trip to Aston Villa on Friday and Sheffield United vs Stoke City on Saturday.

Friday’s bet of the day: Aston Villa vs Leeds, 8pm

Our selection for this match comes from the cards market and we’re expecting both teams to receive at least two yellow cards.

When the sides drew 0-0 at Elland Road in October there were seven cards shown – six yellows and one red – and we’re expecting a similarly niggly encounter at Villa Park.

Leeds have picked up 11 yellow cards in their previous three Premier League matches, whilst Villa have picked up 11 in their last four league games, including seven in their 2-1 win at Brighton.

For reference – one yellow card = 10 booking points and one red card = 25 booking points.

Tip: 20+ booking points each team – Aston Villa vs Leeds @ 1/1 with Betfred

Saturday’s bet of the day: Sheffield United vs Stoke, 3pm

Recent form points to a home win at Bramall Lane, with second-placed United having won eight and drawn one of their previous 10 league matches.

Paul Heckingbottom’s side are nine points clear of Blackburn Rovers, the third-placed team, and are looking good for an automatic promotion place.

In contrast Stoke have lost seven of their last 12 Championship matches to drop to 18th and are only four points above the relegation zone. They won the reverse fixture 3-1 at the bet365 Stadium in October but we’re backing the Blades to avenge that defeat here.

Tip: Sheffield United to win @ 7/10 with Betfred

Sunday’s bet of the day: Tottenham vs Arsenal, 4.30pm

Spurs have finished above Arsenal in each of the previous six Premier League seasons but go into this north London derby 11 points adrift of the leaders having played one match more.

An Arsenal victory would put further distance between these arch-rivals and also take Mikel Arteta’s side eight points clear of Manchester City in the title race, with City facing a testing derby of their own at Old Trafford on Sunday.

The Gunners have not lost in the league since September 4 – winning nine of their 11 matches in that time. Over the same number of matches Spurs have won five and lost five, so our prediction is for a first away win for Arsenal in this fixture since March 2014.

Tip: Arsenal to win @ 23/20 with Betfred

How our selections have fared:

What is the bet of the day?

The bet of the day is a single, double, treble or accumulator that we’ve piced because we believe it has the best chance of returning a profit.

It will have been exhaustively researched and we’ll explain why we think it offers value for money.

How do we select our bet of the day?

There are thousands of football matches each week and hundreds of markets available to bet on, and we look through all the fixtures to find a good-value bet for you to place.

We look at the statistics, current form, league position and head-to-head stats of the two (or more) teams involved to assess its potential.

What do we look for in our bet of the day?

Value. First and foremost we want you to be backing something that in our eyes represents a good-value investment.

What we’re looking for is an outcome that doesn’t just have a good chance of coming in but also, in our opinion, should be at shorter odds.

What price do we try to make our bet of the day?

There’s no specific price that the bet of the day should be, but we try to make sure that it is evens or above on most occasions.

This way you, the punter, are at the very least doubling your money if you decide to take on our bet of the day and it wins.

Remember, you should only bet what you can afford, as no bet is guaranteed to be a winner.
