Boris Johnson was immortalised at the Carlton Club in central London as he unveiled his official portrait on Tuesday night.

The club in St James’s – widely regarded as the Conservative Party’s spiritual headquarters – has a long-standing tradition of commissioning portraits of former Tory premiers, which it hangs on its walls.

The portrait of Mr Johnson was painted by Richard Stone, who had previously painted Michael Howard, now Lord Howard of Lymphne, holding an order paper at the Opposition Despatch Box.

Mr Johnson’s portrait, which is almost life-sized, shows him dressed in a dark blue suit with his arms crossed.
